Indian Navy rescued 23 Pakistani seafarers and their Iranian Fishing Vessel that was targeted by Pirates in the Arabian Sea.

The anti-piracy operation went on for over 12 long hours and was successful.

Indian Navy released a statement in which it said that they received inputs about the piracy attack on a fishing vessel called Al-Kambar 786 on the evening of March 28, 2024, after which two naval ships on maritime security operation in the Arabian Sea were diverted to help the hijacked fishing vessel.

It added that it took over 12 hours of intense tactical methods to force the pirates onboard the hijacked fishing vessel to surrender. The crew of 23 Pakistani nationals were safely rescued.

The statement added that the naval teams sanitised the fishing vessel and ascertained its seaworthiness.

Getting into the details, the Navy mentioned that on March 29, INS Sumedha intercepted the fishing vessel after it sent a distress call. Sumedha was later joined by the Indian Navy’s guided missile frigate INS Trishul.

The Fishing Vessel was around 90 nautical miles southwest of the island of Socotra, a Yemeni island in the Indian Ocean when 9 armed pirates targeted it.

At the beginning of this month, the Indian Navy conducted another operation. It intercepted a vessel called Ruen, around 2600 km from the shores of the Indian Coastline, when pirates targeted it. The Navy forced the pirate vessel to halt.

The rescue effort continued for 40 hours, and INS Kolkata brought the pirates to their knees and safely evacuated the 17 crew members.

In yet another operation, the Navy responded swiftly when a merchant vessel was on fire in the Gulf of Aden after being struck by a missile. The Navy saved 21 crew members, among which one was an Indian.

The Indian Navy stated its commitment to ensuring regional maritime security and the safety and well-being of all seafarers.
