The made-for-TV TGL golf league that was set to debut this past winter now has a new start date: Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.
The series will feature six teams playing in a specially constructed arena in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, that will be home to a mix of virtual and real golf elements. The delay was due to the roof of the SoFi Center – a venue on the campus of Palm Beach State College – collapsing during construction last November.

The league is teeing off on the first three Tuesdays in January and will be televised by ESPN. The move is strategic in that in weeks two and three, the event will be the day after major football games on ESPN – an NFL playoff game and college football’s national title game. Those are traditionally the most-watched events on ESPN all year.
Mike McCarley, founder and CEO of TMRW Sports, said in a press release:
“As we plan the 2025 launch of TGL presented by SoFi, we now have the first three Tuesdays in January circled to introduce sports fans to this new form of team golf. January is a tremendous time of year for fans looking for prime time sports and TGL’s launch will complement the start of the PGA TOUR season and take advantage of ESPN’s promotional machine across their coverage of the NFL and college football playoffs. We’re grateful for our tremendous partner SoFi, who shares in our vision to harness technology to create new approaches within traditional institutions. As construction proceeds on SoFi Center, we’re eager to introduce sports fans to TGL as we focus on the league’s debut this coming January.”

The series will feature six teams –including ones captained by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas – a shot clock, timeouts, and a referee in an attempt to give it a team-sport feel.
