SAD NEWS: Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk announced that he is leaving Boston Bruins today after significant issue in the team….

In a shootout, Kevin Shattenkirk leads the Bruins past the Capitals.

March 31 – The Boston Bruins defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Saturday night when Kevin Shattenkirk scored the game-winning goal in the fifth round of a shootout.
Before ending a run of three straight defeats, Boston (43-17-15, 101 points) overcame a four-minute double-minor for a high stick to the face of Washington’s T.J. Oshie in overtime.
John Beecher and Hampus Lindholm both added goals, while Jeremy Swayman made 18 stops for the Bruins.

On two occasions, goals by Michael Sgarbossa and John Carlson—who was playing in his 1,000th NHL game—saw Washington (36-27-10, 82 points) equalize the score.
The Capitals, who had won three straight games before losing their next two (0-1-1) games, saw Charlie Lindgren make 27 saves.
Boston’s Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak and Washington’s Dylan Strome and Sonny Milano scored shootout goals after Boston’s valiant kill sent the game into extra.

Shattenkirk scored the game-winning goal, ripping it past Lindgren’s glove, and Swayman stopped Connor McMichael in the last second.
With 1:13 left in the first frame, Lindholm opened the score. After Pavel Zacha fired a cross-ice pass up to the point, the defenseman scored from just inside the blue line, ending a 51-game scoring drought.
Early in the second, the sides exchanged goals in a space of 1:02, with Sgarbossa leveling the score at 1:20. Sgarbossa was left alone in the box by Nick Jensen’s pass, and he beat Swayman with a snap shot.

At 2:22, Beecher scored an unassisted goal to put the visitors back ahead after forcing a turnover and finishing a backhand shot on the breakaway.
The Capitals took advantage of two power plays that occurred less than a minute apart to knot the score at 2-2 just past the halfway point of the game, at 14:03. Max Pacioretty’s cross-crease pass to the left post was hammered home by Carlson.
