Philadelphia College Baseball D-III Saturday Recap: Swarthmore Beats F&M To Open Conference Play

Swarthmore kicked off conference play with a commanding 7-1 triumph over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Unfortunately, the second game of the double-header was called off due to unfavorable weather conditions. 
 
Andrew Moy maintained his spotless record for the season, securing his third win with an impeccable performance. The junior showcased solid stuff, delivering eight shutout innings while conceding just five hits with no walks. 
 
Swarthmore's offense wasted no time making an impact, scoring five runs in the first four innings. Benjamin Buchman spearheaded the charge with a stellar 3-for-5 outing, contributing a run, while Brad Johnston led the team with two RBI. 
 
Aidan Sullivan continued his impressive streak, extending his hitting streak to 20 games with a hit and three walks. With his consistent performance, Sullivan has now registered a hit in 29 consecutive games dating back to last season. The sophomore's on-base percentage for the season rose to an impressive .673, with a career mark of .544. Additionally, Sullivan boasts a remarkable batting average of .514 for the current season. 
 
In Other Action 
Widener asserted dominance by clinching the first game of their doubleheader against Hood with a solid 4-1 victory on Saturday. However, Hood managed to bounce back, claiming a hard-fought 3-2 win in an intense 10-inning showdown in the nightcap. 
 
Notably, Nick Barenz reached a significant milestone, notching his 100th career hit with a pivotal single during the 10th inning of game two. 
 
The Pride currently stand at 8-13 in the regular season, maintaining a 4-5 record in conference play. 
 
In the opener, Sean Curran showcased his pitching prowess by going the distance on the mound, delivering seven stellar innings. He conceded just one run while striking out five batters, utilizing 104 pitches effectively. Four different Pride players contributed with one run each, with Alex Savkov standing out with a team-high two hits, along with leading the Pride in RBIs. 
 
In the second game, Savkov continued to shine, leading the Pride once again with three hits. Brendan Raven and Kevin Bukowski each added an RBI to the tally. Tyler Conlan got the nod to start on the mound, delivering a commendable performance by striking out five batters and limiting the opposition to just two runs over 6.1 innings.
